THOMAS J. RAY, JR., is an estate and tax attorney with offices in the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area. He is a member of the Missouri and Oklahoma bars, and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. Supreme Court.Tom began his work in the charitable tax planning field in 1986 with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod Foundation. He left the foundation for private practice in 1992. In addition to his law practice, Tom is a principal of Wealthcounsel, LLC. Wealthcounsel provides technical, educational, and practice development resources for its nearly 1,000 attorney-members in the estate planning field. Wealthcounsel's resources include Wealthdocs, a complete document creation system for wills, revocable living trusts, irrevocable trusts, charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, family foundations, family limited partnerships, and special needs trusts. Tom is the primary draftsman of Wealthdocs charitable components. Tom is also a principal in Planned Giving Concepts, Inc., a trust administration company that provides administrative support for charitable remainder trusts, lead trusts, and private foundations.Tom has lectured and written extensively in the charitable tax planning area. He has conducted seminars and workshops for attorneys, accountants, financial advisors, development officers, and donors throughout the United States. He has written two privately published technical training manuals for lawyers on remainder trusts, lead trusts, private foundations, and supporting organizations.Tom received his undergraduate and law degrees from Oklahoma City University. Before shifting to the charitable tax planning area, he practiced criminal law for six years in Oklahoma, including two years as a senior judicial assistant for the Honorable Ed Parks at the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals.Tom and his wife, Linda--who works in the practice with him--are active members of St. John's Lutheran Church in Arnold, Missouri. They are the parents of two adult sons, David and Daniel.
